The focus of archaeology in Australia largely takes two forms, Aboriginal Archaeology (the archaeology of Aborigines and Australia before European Settlement) and Historical Archaeology (the archaeology of Australia after European Settlement).

Maritime archaeology - Maritime archaeology (also known as marine archaeology) is a discipline that studies human interaction with the sea, lakes and rivers through the study of vessels, shore side facilities, cargoes and human remains. One speciality is underwater archaeology, which studies the past through any submerged remains.
